What Am I Up To?

Yikes! It's a sad fact that I've let this blog slip by the wayside. I ended up getting my job back after being furloughed for over a year. That's turned out to be a double-edged sword, of sorts. It's good because I'm bringing in some money, but bad because I have very little creative time left open to me. My shop is still making sales and I'm thrilled, but I want to grow it even more.

I've branched out with the types of items I offer. I've created three original crochet patterns now and I've also gotten into decorative painting. I'm allowing myself to just create; create by painting, by drawing, by burning, by crocheting. I go where my little otter brain takes me and so far, that's working out well for me. My Honey also bought me the Cricut mug press for Christmas! I haven't had any time to sit and play with it yet and that's killing me! I have so many ideas for mugs! I've also come up with some ideas for new wood burnings because I haven't done a lot of that lately. Here's some preliminary sketches:

My intent is to make balsa wood plaques with these images burned on both sides and then add some crochet edging / accents. I've not totally sold myself on the crocheted edging idea though. I'm going to do some test pieces to to see how it ends up looking. I may do some sort of cordage instead. I also found some AWESOME unpainted ceramics that were on clearance at Michael's. They're Halloween candy dishes and lighted decorations. I couldn't pass them up, I think I bought 12. Oddly enough, I also found some unpainted Christmas ceramics at the Dollar Tree as well as unpainted balsa wall-hangings for both Christmas and Halloween. I know that technically, they don't fit the "Norse Pagan and Scandinavian inspired" theme of my shop, but I don't care! I love painting them and I think they've come out pretty damn good.  Here's some examples:

Of course, I still have my original Tomte Welcome signs and Yule ornaments and I intend on making more of those as well!
You can probably see that time is a precious commodity for me and that's why I'm going to be making some tough decisions in the near future to rearrange my life. More about that in future posts.
I really want to get back to focusing more time on shop info being updated here because I do link to this blog in my shop. I like the idea of people having a behind the scenes look (so to speak) at what goes into making the things that I do and also making it all a little more personal. I don't have the luxury of having a physical space that people can come to, although craft fairs are in the works probably for this coming fall / winter.
So please be patient, stay tuned, and stay connected! Otters are always up to something and I'm no different!
